Regarding the Q&A on Motor Protection Circuit Breaker
sign_3.webp

What is the difference between push-button and rotary switch control?

Push-button models (e.g., HGV2-M20) have a green start / red stop button for local control. Rotary switch models (e.g., HGV2-RS32) have a knob that can be padlocked in the off position for safety during maintenance.

How do I set the correct thermal trip current for my motor?

Set the dial to match the motor’s full load current (FLA) printed on the nameplate. If the motor trips during normal running, increase the dial by 5%. If it doesn’t trip during a sustained overload, decrease by 5%.

Will the HGV2 protect against single-phasing (phase loss)?

Yes. The HGV2 series includes a phase failure/phase imbalance protection mechanism. If one phase drops, the device will trip within a few seconds, preventing motor burnout.

Can I use the HGV2 as a manual motor starter (MMS)?

Yes. The HGV2 series is designed as a manual motor starter. It provides both isolation and overload/short-circuit protection in one compact unit, replacing a separate contactor + overload relay + fuse combination.

What is the magnetic trip current, and can I adjust it?

The magnetic trip (short-circuit protection) is fixed at approximately 10-14 times the thermal trip setting (e.g., for a 10A setting, magnetic trip ~100-140A). This is non-adjustable and designed to allow motor starting inrush currents without tripping.
